You know those days on when you look at the time and, without you even realising it, it’s 1.30pm in the afternoon? Well that’s exactly what happened when I was chilling out at Cala Gracioneta – which is one of the cutest beaches in Ibiza, by the way. Sunbathing and taking the occasional dip in the cool sea meant that the thought of food hadn’t crossed my mind. Totally out of character. When it did though, there was only one place I wanted to try out. El Chiringuito, Cala Gracioneta.
With its secluded beach side location, El Chiringuito, Cala Gracioneta has got the Ibizan style down to a tee.
It’s all pale wooden furniture, stone flooring, white parasols and pink flowers covering the walls.
Or otherwise known as MY IDEA OF HEAVEN.
I gravitated towards it like a moth to a flame – except I didn’t die. I got to eat some delicious food instead.
Of which I didn’t take any picture because I was too hungry. But just imagine…
Crispy, fresh calamari served on a mahogany coloured wooden board complete with homemade tartare sauce which got smothered ALL OVER those squid rings.
We also ordered was a massive bowl of mussels – yes this place has seafood DOWN. I kind of expected them to be in some sort of tomato-y sauce for some reason. I don’t know why. The menu said they would be with the chiringuito’s favourite sauce, and a tomato-y accompaniment was what I imagined.
It was not a tomato sauce though. The sauce was a Thai inspired, coconut infused delight with lime zest mixed up all in there. It was incredible. Part of me wishes I’d just had a bowl of the mussels all to myself. But I had to share. BOO.
All of it was truly amazing though. I saw families and friends laughing with each other and enjoying paella, fresh fish, and refreshing salads. Perfect for a little break from the beach and the ideal spot to soak up the Ibizan atmosphere and the view…
Oh that view…
If you’re going to Ibiza soon, do you think you’ll try this place out?
