If you want the short story, I’m Emma, I’m 29 years old, I live in Leeds but my year in Sydney was still the best year of my life so far. I’m a beach girl at heart and if I could spend every day by the ocean, I would. Is there any better sound to wake up to than sea water washing against the sand? I write for my day job and I also write for my hobby, which is this little blog you’re on now.
I write this blog to showcase my life and my love for travel. Now although I wish I could be on a gorgeous, white sand beach every day with the turquoise ocean lapping at my feet, I can’t be doing that all the time. So, in between posts about some of the best beaches in the world, you’ll also find blogs about unique travel and adventure, and my life in Yorkshire.
If you want the long story of how I got here, scroll a little further down…
I’m Emma, a 29 year old Yorkshire girl with a Yorkshire accent and a huge love for Yorkshire Puddings. If you haven’t tried this delicious dish, please do – I think you’ll enjoy it.
I’ve been through the usual things in life – I went to high school and college, got my A Levels and went to University to get my degree in English Language and Journalism. I’ve fallen in love and got my heart broken and I’ve also wondered what the heck I’m doing with my life.
It wasn’t until after I graduated though, that I really got to do what I wanted – all I wanted to do was travel and see the world! I wan’t really interested in finding a graduate job, I’d just got out of a long-term relationship and I saw how much fun my friend was having in New Zealand. There really wasn’t any reason not to go for it, I had no excuse not to book a plane ticket and get away on a new adventure! I booked my tickets and 6 weeks after graduation I was on a flight to Hong Kong ready to live my dream!
I stayed there for a month, went to live in Sydney for a year and explored a bit of New Zealand whilst I was over there. It has been the best time of my life so far and is probably my main motivation for where I’m at in life right now.
In the back of my mind, I’ve always wanted to be a travel writer. I want to find out new things about different places and experience new cultures, then I want to write about it so that other people can learn about the world. However, I never had the confidence to do this. Yes, I could jump on a plane to the other side of the world by my self but I couldn’t put pen to paper and put my work out there for others to read.
So in the meantime I’ve worked in call centres, in retail and even as a milk man – or milk maid, whichever you prefer – as a way to live and get by. I knew in my heart though, those jobs were never going to be a permanent thing. What I needed was the confidence to go for my dream. And that’s where this blog started.
My passion is to write, to write about travel and adventure and life. And this blog is my home for all that creativity.
You know what though, it’s paid off. In one year, I’ve gone from working in a call centre, selling breakdown cover for cars, to working as a Content and Marketing Executive for a travel company. It’s definitely a step in the right direction to becoming a travel writer – one day my office will have a view of the beach, I hope!
Now that I have a 9-5 job though, I have the funds to travel but not so much the time! I have dreams of going to Bali, Ibiza, Croatia, California, Norway, Iceland so it looks like I’ll have to plan my annual leave carefully this year!
