Hola! How are you all? I’ve got to say, I’m loving doing these weekly catch ups again. It definitely makes me take stock of what I’ve actually done and achieved rather than feeling like I’ve done nothing.
This week has been a bit weird though. I’ve been feeling a bit down if I’m honest. A bit lost and not entirely happy. It’s made me realise that I might not appreciate everything in the present and also that I’m very, very good at pushing how I actually feel about stuff to the back of my mind until it comes out in a massive blubbering mess. And I don’t really cry that much.
But you know, in standard Emma fashion, I’m not quite ready to talk about all the feels yet. There’s a lot of stuff for me to figure out and I’m sure I’ll come out of the other side just fine.
Until then, I think I need to think about what is actually going to make me happy. YOLO, right?
Sorry for the glum start, I promise this week has been quite good, I guess I’ve just been feeling, well, a bit meh.
But there are things this week that haven’t been meh and here they are!
Brogs and Dom are two of my best mates. Sometimes I don’t see them half as much as I want to so on Thursday they both came round for dinner and a massive catch up. I cooked a roast veg salad and halloumi cheese and we chatted about our new jobs, the holidays we’d been on and a ton of other random stuff that only makes sense to good buddies. It was a much needed evening of belly laughter!
It’s been a while since I’ve seen my Mum and Step Dad so since I had Friday afternoon off, I thought I would go and hang out with them for a bit. We went out for a nice dinner, chilled out in front of Friday night TV and I got to cuddle my dogs too which is always a bonus, especially when they’re as cute as this one.
I’ve spoke before about my struggles with IBS and I still don’t know really what causes it which can be frustrating at the best of times. The FODMAP diet is one confusing beast as there are so many different things I’m not meant to eat that will supposedly help with the IBS. I’ve been a bit naughty though recently and I can definitely tell there’s been a change with my digestive system. So, it’s time to get back on the good-eating bandwagon. Naturally, to do that, I made gluten free chocolate chip cookies. And they’re proper nice!
Every year, the 29th July comes around and I can’t believe it’s been another 365 days since I stepped on a plane at Heathrow Airport for my 14 months of adventure. I think about how it was one of the best years of my life and it also makes me think what I’ve achieved since then, which is quite a lot. Oh, and it makes me desperate to go abroad again!
There’s a place just outside Leeds called Rodley Nature Reserve and a few weeks ago, my boyfriend booked us both a place on a bat walk. Yep, a walk to go find bats. I was a bit indifferent to the whole thing but it was actually a pretty interesting evening. Everyone got echo location devices so that we could tell when bats were just a few metres away. We got to see them flying directly above us, catching food as they flew through the night. It was also pretty awesome being able to hear their echo location work as they swooped above us. I’ve not experienced anything like that before and it’s definitely not how I’d usually spend a Saturday night so I quite enjoyed the change of scenery! Even if the bats did make me a little jumpy at times…
Oh man, IKEA. Who knew I’d get so excited about going to IKEA to buy storage jars and containers for the food in my kitchen? Definitely not me but I was quite giddy to get several bits and pieces to make my cupboards and work tops a bit tidier this week. And now, everything is organised and I love it. No more messy cupboards, everything has its place which makes me feel a little more calm about my kitchen space!
Have you all had a good week? Let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments below, I love hearing about what you’ve all been doing too!
