Do you know what? Life is good at the moment. February is finally here after a January that seemed to last FOREVER and the nights are finally getting a little lighter. Is everyone else loving leaving work and there still being a smidgen of light in the sky? I know it’s raising my spirits for sure. With the positive vibe, I wanted to share with you the little things that have been making me happy lately.
After months of deliberating and procrastinating, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new a camera. The Sony a5100 to be precise. I got it a couple of weeks ago and I’m so excited to take my photography game to the next level. When I learn how to use it properly that is… That thing is like a little computer but I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon enough. And if anyone in Leeds fancies going out for the day to take photos, let me know. It’d be fun to have a little photo crew to go explore with!
I don’t like coffee but I like doughnuts. So on Saturday, I went to Temple Coffee in Leeds and picked up this absolute beauty of a treat. This place is basically on an industrial estate outside of Leeds but because their good are so Instagrammable, I think the journey is worth it. I’m also 99% sure that why everyone makes the journey to come here, but their doughnuts live up to the hype and I’m glad to say they taste as good as they look.
Going for brunch at Olive and Rye the other week with Kate and Beverley was just lovely. Catching up with two of my faves while devouring a plate of buttermilk and banana pancakes was the best way to start a Saturday morning. I want to write a blog post to tell you guys more about this place but since I’m sans photos, it’ll have to require another visit. Oh no…
Last week was one of those weeks where I got home every day from work, put my comfy pants on, hauled a slouchy jumper over my head, and settled in for the evening pretty much as soon as I set foot through my door. And do you know what? I’ve loved it. I’ve written a bunch load of blog posts, rattled my way through Friends, and I’ve finished reading my book…
I got lent this book a couple of months ago and I’ve finally finished reading it. It took a while to get into but I stormed through the last 100 pages on Monday night and can safely say it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Guaranteed, I don’t read a lot of books from beginning to end but it’s as stand out for sure.
You know when you get a plan in action, it just feels good? Well, since last year, I’ve been talking about saving for a deposit for a house. I didn’t travel as much last year so that I could get on track with my moolah and also have a new focus. But now, NOW, I have a plan. At maximum, it’s 4-year plan. At minimum it’s a 2-year plan, but that means having NO LIFE for 24 months. I’m not quite sure I’m quite ready to put life and memories on hold that much just yet. Although I am willing to buy no new clothes, cook cheap, healthy food, and not go out on the lash.
I’ll put a certain amount of dosh – a minimum – in a savings account for a house. That money will not be touched. Aside from my rent and bills, any money I have left is for food, petrol, unexpected bills – which will be going into another savings account – and my social life. If I want any holidays, it has to come out of that money. If I have any left, I’ll put it in my house deposit savings. At the latest, I’ll be buying my own house my 2022. AWESOME.
Over the last week, I’ve really been enjoying making soup. It’s a great way to use left-over veg and make a cheap meal. Plus, how nice and warming is a good bowl of soup on a winter’s day?
What’s been making you happy lately?
