If you’re like me and you live in a furnished rental apartment, then you know the furniture and decoration can be pretty grim. Fortunately, the way my flat is decked out isn’t too bad but I guess it’s just a little uninspiring.
It’s got the bog standard black box sofa, pine furniture and the seriously unstylish wooden headboard on my bed. There are also the brown and black squared-patterned curtains in the living room, a basic mirror in the hallway and laminate wooden flooring.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my flat. It’s in a great location, is modern and has the cutest balcony looking over Leeds Dock. It just, well, it lacks a little bit of personality. That thing that makes it feel like yours.
That’s when I decided I needed some new prints to make the place look a bit more lively. I’ve already got a few pictures on my wall – yes I hang them on my wall, don’t tell my landlord! These bits of art I’ve collected from my travels including a print I got down at the Saturday market in The Rocks in Sydney and a screen-print of a turtle I got at the Hippy Market in Ibiza.
But, there were a few from Desenio I had my eye on that I thought would be the perfect beachy compliment to my already travel-related collection.
I first heard of this brand when I saw that my friend Beverley had picked out a few gorgeous pieces for her new flat and I knew I needed to spruce my place up with some too. Unlike Beverley who went for a few classic, clean and modern looking choices, I went a bit vibrant and maybe slightly crazy.
In an ideal world, I would go for something a little more slick but I was totally drawn to the style, colour and theme of all these prints. From simple palm trees swaying in the breeze to bright green banana leaf print and from the simple pink flamingo to the quote below that will forever make me want to get on a plane. These prints will keep me in a tropical state of mind even when my flat is sat in the middle of rainy Leeds.
And, they’ve instantly made my apartment a little more, well, me. I’ve put some in my room and there’s a couple in the living room too to give the room that extra bit of life.
One of my favourites out of this little collection I’ve put together is my map of Sydney. I haven’t shown it here because I haven’t got a frame for it yet. But it’s a place that means so much to me and I knew it had to be a part of this little haul as soon as I saw it. I also love a mini watermelon print I got, the perfect wave and I just can’t get enough of the colourful flamingo print – yes, I got two flamingo prints, please don’t judge me.
I love the little refresh these prints have given to my apartment and if you want some of your own tropical prints to brighten up your apartment, there’s a cheeky little discount code for you from Desenio.
